Squamish Fishing Report - Whistler Fishing Report
Updated Jan 2, 2009 Whistler/Squamish Area Lakes: No report till spring. Whistler/Squamish Area Rivers: Rivers in Squamish are very cold, low and gin clear with ice flows. The upper Squamish River is covered in snow. There is a lot of ice in the river and in slow moving areas the river has completely frozen over. Char and rainbows when active will be feeding on sculpins and dead salmon flesh. Egg patterns will still work with pale patterns being the better producers.

Fishing Boats
By Don Walters

My father has owned a lot of fishing boats, though he has had his current one for many years now, and seems to be happy with it. He only fishes on lakes, so he doesn’t need one that is too powerful. If you fish on the ocean or in strong rivers, however, you are going to need something a bit bigger than your average three seater. Safety should always be your number one concern, and when you shop for boats, you have to keep this your number one priority

Fishing boats like the one my dad has are relatively inexpensive, and do great for lake fishing. The motor is purchased separately but attached to the boat. He has three seats on his, and these are secured to the bottom. He can only have three people on his boats for safety reasons, and he sticks to this rule religiously. Other fishing boats can hold more people, so make sure you keep this in mind when you buy. If you want ten people on your boat, make sure you get one that can handle the weight and has enough space.

If you want to buy fishing boats to go fishing on the ocean, you have to look at

a whole new range of boats. These not only have to be powerful, they have to be able to withstand the power an angry ocean can dish out. If you don’t know what you are doing, you are better of renting fishing boats for ocean fishing that can be piloted by someone who has plenty of experience with the ocean. You may be able to learn to do this yourself, but make sure you get enough experience before you venture out to sea in control of your own fishing boats.

When shopping for fishing boats, you can also consider buying used. Much like when you buy a used car, you have to make sure you check everything over before you decide that you want to buy. There can be many things that go wrong on fishing boats, and you don’t want anything to happen because you didn’t look over your used boat before you purchased it. Find someone who knows something about boats to go with you, and make sure you go over everything with the person who is selling the boat. Check that the boat is waterproof, sturdy and has no rust problems that may cause leaks in the future.
